U.S. Model M-1 Carbine in M1A1 paratrooper configuration with action made by National Postal Meter between February and September of 1943. Correct 18" "UNDERWOOD" marked barrel dated "8-43" with Flaming Bomb. Unmarked front sight with early style rear flip sight. Mixed internal correct parts with unusual flip type safety (homemade, prototype?) and unmarked early style magazine catch release button. "N" marked flat bolt. Correct Inland manufactured walnut high wood stock with "IO" marking on base of correct "fat boy" grip. "J L B" marked 2-rivet top wood and "U" stamped early style band. Correct skeleton stock with 3 brass rivet leather center piece and "B257614" casting marking on buttplate. Carbine comes with "IA" marked flat bottom 15 round magazine, period woven sling, aftermarket flash suppressor, and reproduction canvas go-bag. CONDITION: 70% original arsenal finish with carry and edge wear and some age discoloration on some parts. Wood has been cleaned with some cartouches missing. Small 1" crack protruding from recoil shield on each side. Incorrect screw in butt of grip. Good bore with ME of 2 with good mechanics. Carbine was most likely a post-World War II assembled gun with great look for the re-enactor or to enjoy as is.
