Lesser known than its successor, ERMA's EMP, Heinrich Vollmer's V.M.P. and its former variations were produced in very small numbers, despite featuring significant details in design that would go on to feature in other prominent submachine guns of the period, such as the MP40; the Reichswehr ceased Vollmer's funding, and the V.M.P. found little success in the foreign military or commercial sectors. This example is stamped "V.M.P." over the serial number "810" on the stock's receiver endcap, with "(Crown)/ N" commercial nitro proofs present on the barrel, receiver, receiver endcap, as well as the bolt. Metal components exhibit a lustrous blue finish, while some smaller components are in-the-white, and the stock is comprised of solid wood. Magazine well collar has been refinished at one point in time, and appears to be a period refinish. Underside of magazine well collar bears 3 indiscernible characters. Barrel measures 12 - 1/4" in length and features fluting that terminates 2 - 3/4" from the muzzle. Stock exhibits its signature vertical wood foregrip that features a 2-position monopod which extends from the base of the foregrip. Matching number "810" is present on the receiver endcap, magazine well collar, underside of receiver (forward of the magazine well collar), barrel, charging handle, as well as on the interior of the stock on the forward plate. Forward and rear interior stock plates are stamped "4", which appears to be an assembly number, and is also present on the bolt and monopod assemblies as either "4" or "04". PROVENENCE: From the personal collection of a very discerning and advanced machine gun collector who desires to remain anonymous as he draws down his collection. CONDITION: Metal components retain bountiful amounts of their period-applied blue finish, exhibiting mild wear from storage and handling, as well as a few spots of very light surface-level oxidation. Magazine well collar shows some discoloration and some small spots of pitting beneath the finish but is otherwise very good. Bolt and bolt face are extremely fine. Mirror bore, retaining good rifling throughout. Stock is excellent, showing a few minor marks from storage and handling. An exceptional example of an extremely scarce and seldom encountered German interwar submachine gun, that is befitting of the most advanced collections. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE.
