Lot consists of (A) United States Department of the Interior Geological Survey Map of Alaska, Edition of 1940, with 8 photos of Jerry Colonna and Bob Hope's visit to Alaska during World War II. The map and the photos have been mounted with tape on a piece of cardboard and plastic wrapped. Bob Hope stopped in Fairbanks, Alaska while on a USO trip to Alaska in 1942 and was accompanied by comic Jerry Colonna, singer-actress Frances Langford, and guitarist Tony Romano. The photos depict the celebrities entertaining US troops, group shots, and Hope and Colonna wearing fur parkas while in an air raid trench. Photos are clear with great subject matter featuring members of the USAAF in their flight jackets, as well as great photos of Hope and his Troupe. The map is quite interesting, as there is a hand drawn travel route, drawn with red pencil and annotations which are written in black ink. These notes could have been written by Bob Hope or one of his fellow entertainers as a travel log for their journey. CONDITION: Map exhibits creases and yellowing around the edges, otherwise very clean. Photos exhibit scattered edge wear but are nicely preserved. Could use a professional frame. Overall very good. (B) Professor Jerry Colona's Air Force with the Bob Hope Troupe print. The print is addressed to Colonna and signed by Eugene M. Zuckert, who was the secretary of the Air Force from 1961-1965. The signed portion reads "To Jerry Colonna- With the thanks of many thousands of kind people- Eugene M Zuckert Secretary of the Air Force. The print is singed by the artist "Jack Lorusso '64" under the caricature of Earth. CONDITION: The print is nicely framed and presents well with vibrant colors. Foxing evident around the edges. Overall very good. PROVENANCE: Roger Bender Collection.
