This is a Savage manufactured M1A1 Thompson with a riveted style type grip mount. Marked “AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION / BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT U.S.A.” on right side of receiver with “GEG” (Gerge E. Goll, civilian inspector) initials visible on left side of receiver, and marked “S” on underside of receiver forward of magazine well, which indicates Savage Arms Company manufacture. This M1A1 model of the Thompson machine was mass produced for the U.S. military during World War II and accepts only stick magazines. 1 U.S. Cartridge Company 30-round magazine is included with this lot. High quality construction and materials throughout, the Thompson machine guns made during this era are the most durable of their kind. Parts are generally available and these guns hold a special place in the collector community, appealing to the WWII military collector as well as the recreational shooter. Electronic NFA registry indicates “IMPORTED NFA FIREARM” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall finish and appearance is near excellent matte gray arsenal refinish with some discoloration where the forend hardware meets the receiver and at the ejector plate. Wood is extremely fine to near excellent with a couple light dings and some handling marks. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face near excellent. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select fire machine gun. A great specimen of a true American military classic WWII Thompson M1A1 machine gun.
