This is a Bren Mark I M machine gun manufactured by Inglis of Canada in 1941 as indicated by the markings on the left side of the receiver. The serial number indicates this gun would have been manufactured fairly early in production, and the brass disk is present in the buttstock as well as the lightening “flutes” in the gas cylinder and lightening holes the barrel carrying handle bracket. There is no dovetail slot in the receiver for emplacement of the lensatic sight, nor lightening hole in the magazine release catch. None of the 6 barrels which are included with this gun match in serial number, but all are in good serviceable condition. Charging handle is of the folding type. Accessories comprise 2 30-round magazines, desirable tripod with AA extension leg, 2 original metal magazine boxes with 12 magazines each, 5 spare .303 barrels, 1 spare gas piston, 1 pan-type magazine, 2 brass catching bags, 2 canvas barrel carriers, 1 gunners kit with oil can, combination spanner/screwdriver tool, pull though cleaning tool, and brass lubrication canister. The Bren gun is generally accepted to be one of the best light to medium machine guns of World War II and is particularly popular with collectors and recreational shooting enthusiasts. Incoming paper registration form indicates “UNKNOWN” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent smooth grey original finish thinning in places to a pleasing grey patina. Wood is fine with some handling marks and World War II vintage repaired crack across the top of the buttstock using angled glued on dovetails. Bores of barrels range from near excellent, shiny and bright to strong rifling dark in the grooves. Bolt face is extremely fine to near excellent. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select fire machine gun. Fully transferable curio and relic WWII Bren machine guns seldom surface for sale and this is a wonderful opportunity for the machine gun collector/shooter. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2023-4-21
