Lanchester Mk I* manufactured during the early to mid-1940s to supplement small arms to Britain's Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. This example is stamped "LANCHESTER/ MK.I*/ BOSS." above the serial number on the cast brass magazine well, with a "(Crown)/ IB" followed by "44" and 2 British proofs present on the collar. Metal components are blued (except for the magazine well), with the SMLE pattern stock comprising wood and featuring a brass buttplate. This example is accompanied by 1 50-round stock magazine and is mounted with a 1942-dated khaki canvas web sling. NFA Registry indicates "ENGLISH OR B FIREARMS CO INC, NEW YORK N" in the manufacturer block and "LANCHESTER MKI" in the model block. CONDITION: Metal components exhibit scattered marks from handling and storage overall, with the perforated barrel shroud exhibiting areas of wear that show through to a pleasant brown patina. Brass magazine well retains a thin layer of lacquer. Very bright bore, exhibiting some pitting in the lands and retaining well-defined rifling throughout. Stock exhibits scattered dings and marks from handling and storage but is otherwise fine. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4.
ADDENDUM: Great news! Inquiry with the BATF has confirmed and this is INDEED a Curio and Relic eligible machine gun. This no doubt will increase the attractiveness of this piece, which is a tremendously fun and comfortable machine gun to shoot.
