Lot consists of: (A) Very nice example of a P-1A flight helmet fitted with a P-3 style visor. Helmet is painted gray with red arrows and cowboy riding bucking bronco for the 187th Fighter Squadron, which was deployed to Korea and flew over 1500 combat missions. The 187th Fighter Squadron became the 187th Airlift Squadron in 1961. Fitted with a Navy MS22001 oxygen mask (A-13 USAF designation). Full comm set up and original liner with spec tag and USAF stamp present and in very good condition. Visor missing spring on right side. Oxygen mask hose is brittle and around mask is separating. Very nice example of an early USAF helmet. CONDITION: Good. (B) 187th Airlift squadron patched CWU-27/P flight suit with scattered blemishes in very good condition. (C) USAF control stick from an F-86 Sabre flown by the 187th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, flying the F-86D at the time this control stick was removed. According to the consigner, the removal was witnessed by Col. John Bee, pilot and subsequent commander of the 187th. The PA1 helmet in this lot was worn by Col. Bee while he piloted P-80 Shooting Stars and F-86 Sabres. Stick swivels properly and all triggers/buttons function. Scattered blemishes and scuffs but a nice display. CONDITION: Good.
