Model 38/42 submachine gun manufactured by Beretta during World War II. The receiver is stamped "MP BERETTA. Mod.38/42-Cal.9", followed by the serial number "CM418". Left side of buttstock bears a "4/ UT/ 44" within an oval proof. Metal components are blued, while the 2-piece buttstock is comprised of wood. Matching numbers are present on the receiver, barrel, and buttstock. Bolt is matching via an electro-penciled inscription. 1 40-round magazine is present. This example is accompanied by its original 1968 amnesty registration form and 1977, 1978, and 1999 Commonwealth of Virginia certificates of registration. NFA registry lists "BERETTA, ITALY" in the manufacturer block and "M38/42" in the model block. CONDITION: Metal components retain fair to good amounts of their original arsenal finish, exhibiting wear and thinning overall that show through to pleasant brown and gray patinas. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting sharp and well-defined rifling throughout. Stock exhibits scattered dings, nicks, and minor impressions from handling and storage, with some separation towards the bottom of the 2-piece buttstock.
