This Lewis Machine Gun is marked “Mfg by Savage Arms Corp, Utica, NY, USA" over ".30 U.S. Gov't" on action cover with "Cal .30 MODEL 0F 1917” on top of receiver with “U.S. NO. 2385” marked forward of pan magazine shaft. The right side of the receiver is marked "Savage Arms Corporation" on right side of receiver as well. Savage patent dates on rear buttplate. 1 47 round original .30-06 pan magazine is included with this lot. Gas regulator gland and gas regulator key not present. Original amnesty registration form is included with this gun. Gun is registered under its U.S. number. Electronic NFA registry indicates “SAVAGE” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fair on receiver and buttstock hardware, pretty much devoid of finish to a gray patina with some scattered brown patina on the buttplate. There is much more finish on the shroud, which also has some barely discernible discoloration from heat. Bipod has fine original finish. Wood is fine, slightly loose in its hardware with light handling marks. Wood grips are also fine with a 1" gouge on the left side panel. Pan magazine is fine. Bore is shiny and bright. Bolt exhibits navy anchor and is fine with fine bolt face. The Lewis machine gun was the most popular light machine gun of both sides during World War I. Reliable, portable, and relatively light in comparison to the water-cooled guns then employed. This specimen needs a couple of parts, and then could become a nice shooter to take to the range. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2023-9-53
