Attractive portrait of Continental Navy officer Commodore John Barry (1745-1803). Circa early-mid 19th century oil on canvas and framed, measuring approximately 36" x 30". The lower center of the frame displays a plaque that reads "John Barry / Commodore American Navy / Revolutionary War / After a portrait by Gilbert Stuart". The original portrait by Stuart was completed in 1801. This example was purchased by Dr. John K. Lattimer, who hung it as the centerpiece in his study. Though not as detailed as the Stuart original, it still commands attention when mounted. No major blemishes to the canvas with clear image of the Commodore. Frame exhibits scattered blemishes that are commensurate with age and handling wear. CONDITION: Good.
