German World War II late war flared rim M38 Fallschirmjaeger helmet. Helmet is marked on the inside of the rear skirt "ckl68" for "Eisenhuettenwerk Thale / Harz" and shell size "68". The lot number is mostly illegible, common on these late war helmets, but appears to be "xx47".The shell exterior retains 90+% of its rough gray-green finish, with scattered marks, patina, and a few spots of white paint. Reproduction Heer and national colors decals are present, but these can be easily removed. Interior also retains 90+% of its original paint with the rougher rim details, commonly encountered on these late war helmets. Original mid-war liner assembly is marked for a shell size of "68" and is size marked "57" with the "Heisler, Berlin" and "F.W. Mueller, Jr.", with a couple of small cracks near the vent holes, with light wear (mainly on the edge) and staining. Liner pads are intact, mounted to the standard zinc liner band. It is common to see a mid-war liner assembly in these late issue flared rim shell. The side bolts are slotted aluminum and the rear bolts are slotted steel; all 4 are painted green. All 8 of the aluminum bolt nuts are present on the inside. The chinstraps are old reproductions, so the helmet has been reassembled at some point, but there is no evidence the liner assembly has been replaced. CONDITION: Overall excellent. WEZ
