Lot consists of 2 Type H-4 protective flying helmets that were issued to US Naval and Marine aviators in the 1950s. (A) USN H-4 flying helmet by General Textiles Mills Inc. (Gentex). Size medium. The H-4 is manufactured with an epoxy resin reinforced rigid shell featuring distinctive ridged 'veins' radiating from the crown. Internal webbing harness with a leather headband for additional comfort. This example is finished in the original gold paint synonymous with US Naval helmets of the 1950s and features a large USN pilot wing decal over the forehead. Fitted with an MT-521A boom microphone and external press studs to attach a pair of goggles and chin strap. The shell has scattered blemishes with excellent paint. The lining is very good with light wear. These helmets were worn with a cloth inner helmet which is present and marked by Gentex as a size medium. CONDITION: Very good. (B) H-4 flying helmet by Gentex. Size medium. Epoxy resin reinforced rigid shell featuring distinctive ridged 'veins' radiating from the crown. Internal webbing harness with a leather headband for additional comfort. This example exhibits white paint. Fitted with an MT-521A boom microphone and external press studs to attach a pair of goggles and chin strap, which is absent. The shell exhibits scattered blemishes with decent paint. The lining exhibits light wear but remains solid. These helmets were worn with a cloth inner helmet which is present and marked by Stole & Klein as a size medium. CONDITION: Good.
