Circa 1770-1780. Heavy round barrel with narrowing top flat. Small rear sight and brass front blade sight. Barrel shortened during period of use and has a sheet brass band at the muzzle. Replaced lock marked "JOHN WALKER" in center. Brass furniture. Walnut stock of early form with relief-carved shell around barrel tang and molding around lock, sideplate, and ramrod entry ferrule. CONDITION: Barrel retains a dark brown patina Lock retains a grey patina and functions well, strong mechanism. Stock shows scattered marks from use and a couple minor slivers absent along barrel. Brass retains a mustard patina, one ramrod thimble missing. A nice early rifle.
