A fine example of a British 1796 pattern light cavalry saber that features a 30" curved blade with wide fuller. The blade is decorated for about half of its length with nicely executed fire blued panels with 3 gold inlaid decorations on each side, including foliate motifs as well as 2 liberty-capped panoplies of arms on the obverse side. Flat spine with no visible maker marks. Tombstone languets with reverse P guard that features a slot toward the pommel to accommodate a sword knot. Dove head pommel with full backstrap that accommodates the grooved, leather-wrapped wood grip with twisted brass wire. The sword is complete with its iron scabbard that features 2 carry bands with subtle drag. The blade exhibits a light patina with scattered blemishes throughout its length. Nice amounts of fire bluing remain on the panels. Hilt exhibits a pleasant patina with intact and sturdy grip. Scabbard exhibits a dark gray patina with scattered blemishes. Missing carry rings. CONDITION: Good.
