Group industries Browning Model 37 registered sideplate fitted to a Colt Model 1928 commercial Browning water cooled machine gun. Essentially a Browning Model 1917A1 with a different flash hider. After World War I, Colt had a significant amount of Browning water cooled machine gun parts left over. In an effort to capitalize on them, they marketed the “Colt Commercial Model of 1928” worldwide. South America purchased a significant number, with associated tripods. Many decades later, these were imported back into the United States as parts kits, and many were assembled onto registered sideplates and sold. Others were made into semi-automatic guns. This specimen is missing the pistol grip panels, and half the drain cork is split away, but does have very attractive Colt markings on the right sideplate. Original South American contract serial number “745” clearly visible on the top of the attractive bronze trunnion. Original Colt commercial tripod lower leg assembly (no head) with data plate (#491) still on leg is included with this lot. Bolt is unmarked on top. Electronic NFA registry indicates “BROWN, MICHAEL DBA GROUP INDUSTRIE” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall finish and appearance is near excellent smooth refinish upon remanufacture. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face is extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a full-auto only machine gun. A very attractive looking Browning with no dents in the water jacket, and bronze end cap and trunnion. Would be an excellent gun to take to the range, or to display in this conidition. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. JWK 2024-05-028
