This is a mismatched MP-40 with a gray phosphate tube manufactured by Mertzwerke (cos), with WaA44 proof and dated “42”, with Steyr final proof. Barrel is Stery manufactured and mismatched 1695l. Lower in mismatched 2942o and manufactured by Krupp (cnd) with ERMA final proof (ayf). Bolt is Haenel manufactured (37) and numbered 0059e. One original magazine is included with this lot, as well as a very nice original sling. Barrel resting bar appears to be a high-quality replacement. Electronic NFA registry indicates “GERMANY” as the manufacturer. Magazine housing has a square “cutout” at the rear just as found on the early slab-sided magazine housings. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near apparently original gray phosphate finish in the receiver tube, magazine housing, and barrel retention nut with a gray finished sight hood (#557). Barrel and grip frame a more lustrous blue with loss of finish to a gray patina at the lower detent knob. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face extremely fine to near excellent and mostly a gray patina. Bakelite lower is fine with numerous scratches and handling marks, and the left grip panel has been cracked in the lower quadrant and expertly repaired. Mechanics are crisp. This is a full-auto only machine gun. This is a unusual MP-40 with its combination of finishes, and with a bore in a condition very seldom encountered.
