Manufactured in 1957 in early National Match configuration with only a "NM" and star stamped on the left side of the barrel between the gas tube bands. Springfield barrel dated "5 56". Correctly unmarked standard post war sights. Matte gray parkerized finish throughout. Correct Springfield trigger assembly with stamped guard. Moderately figured walnut stocks with circle "P" at wrist and DOD eagle stamp on the left. Standard mounts with a "56" dated brown leather Turner Saddlery "NM" sling. Also accompanied by the original requisition and shipping form indicating the sale of this National Match rifle, listed by serial number from the Raritan Arsenal in 1958, to a George Campbell of Portland, Oregon. CONDITION: Very fine. Nearly all of the parkerized finish is retained throughout, with some mild high-edge silvering. Stocks are very fine with only light handling marks. Good, strong bore with some shooting residue. ME of 1. TE of 2. Fine mechanics. Sling remains strong and supple, in near excellent condition. A very nice example with scarce original documentation.
