Although quantities of M1941 rifles in the no prefix serial number block are known to have been in USMC possession during WWII, this example appears to have been a Dutch contract gun acquired surplus by Winfield Arms and sold as their lightly modified "Standard Sporter" in the 1950s or 60s. Rifle is fitted with an unmarked replacement barrel as is correct for these guns with ramped gold bead front sight without bayonet lug. Adjustable rear aperture sight has been modified into a "V", similar to some WWII USMC modified examples. Parkerized receiver stamped on top with maker, model, and patent information, and with "CRANSTON / ARMS" logo at the rear. Replacement 2-piece walnut pistol grip stocks with Winfield Arms rubber recoil pad and unfilled sling swivel hole on the grip. Rifle is accompanied by an original checkered steel military butt plate as well as an unattached sight hood. CONDITION: Very good. Rifle retains the vast majority of its matte finish with only moderate wear. Stocks have some scattered field impressions. Pad shows heavy deterioration. Very good, strong and bright bore. Fine mechanics.
