Extremely fine DWM manufactured Maxim MG-08 probably manufactured very early in 1918, which includes not only a Swiss tripod, but also one original matching lock and one forced matched lock. This Maxim presents exceptionally well as visible numbers are all matching throughout including the barrel, locks (as noted), and even the lower feed arm on the feed block is original and matching. Must also disclose that the top cover number is a forced match, and the muzzle booster is a faithful reproduction. Thumbpieces not present on the water fill cap. However, the drain valve, steam port fitting, with cork and chain are present and serviceable, and there is a significant amount of original paint on the undented water jacket. Desirable Swiss mount makes for an outstanding and much easier to transport recreational shooting platform. Electronic NFA registry indicates “GERMAN” as the manufacturer. Currently registered under 38069. This can be requested correction to 8069c upon transfer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent original blue finish with touch-up blue on the top cover at the serial number and model markings. About 15% of the original gray/green paint remains on the water jacket. Backplate spade handles are extremely fine with some handling marks and a couple small chips with a small 1” crack on each handle at the base. A couple small dents in the fusee cover which could be remedied. None of this really detracts from this piece as being what it is. Bore is extremely fine, shiny and bright. Both lock faces are extremely fine to near excellent. Gun mechanics are crisp and positive, and action moves smoothly when operated by hand. This is a full-auto-only machine gun. Tripod is in extremely fine to near excellent condition and mechanics are smooth and positive. This is really an outstanding specimen of the German WWI Maxim machine gun, and this cataloger has observed and fired this gun and it runs well. It might be a very, very long time before you fine another MG-08 as nice as this one. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER.
