Composed of a dark blue-black wool cloth pressed over a cork inner body shell with gilded metal components, including a deluxe eagle plate with applied crossed sabers surmounted with a shield affixed to the front of the helmet. A large silvered "1" is attached to the center of shield. All original cavalry side buttons, brass chin chain, and yellow yak hair plume. Leather trip exhibits blemishes in some areas. Helmet is complete with gilt triplet cords, tassels, and waffles. All components are as prescribed for the Model 1881 dress helmet. the 2" brown leather sweatband is intact and complete and the interior features brown silk lining with green silk under the brims. The sweatband is separated in areas and is somewhat supple, but stiff enough to hinder efforts to locate a maker stamp. CONDITION: Very good.
