Colt 1921/28 Navy Thompson with Cutts compensator and “U.S. Navy” marking above model marking on left side of receiver as well as “8” overstamp. “JHB” inspection mark discernible on right side of receiver. Diamond/bullet logo Cutts compensator. Gun retains 1928 internal parts. Buttstock retains visible anchor cartouche at leading edge, but has replacement detent button and stock latch does not hold stock on positively. Accessories include one 50-round Seymour “L” drum, and one 20-round Seymour stick magazine, as well as an original No Buckl sling. The barrel index mark on the right side matches perfectly, with a “P” proof at the 12 o’clock position on top of the barrel where it meets the receiver. It is worthwhile to note that the handgrip has a coating of dark brown laquer applied, while the buttstock and horizontal forend are very clean, unsanded, and without even an oil finish; or if there was, it is gone now. Although many Thompson machine guns were produced, especially during World War II, it is the Colt Thompson that is the most iconic of all American machine guns, and the ones with the Cutts compensator and vertical foregrip such are this one have the most recognized silhouette. Electronic NFA Registry indicates “AUTO ORDNANCE” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is about fair with significant loss of finish to a gray and brown patina with moderate albeit not deep pitting. There is a noticeable small chip out of the bottom of the handgrip. The Savage manufactured lower assembly has a very neatly machined 1/8” wide slot which removed the serial number from this part. 50-round drum has areas of scattered old removed corrosion, as does the 20-round stick magazine. Sling is in fine serviceable condition. Forend and buttstock are extremely fine with some light handling marks. Handgrip has dark brown laquer chipping away, with small chip of wood out at bottom. Bore is extremely fine, shiny and bright. Bolt face fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select fire machine gun. If there ever was a Colt Thompson that looked like a veteran of military service, this is it. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2024-09-011.
