Circa 1912 per William Evans's web search. 28" chopper lump barrels with hand-cut matte rib. Flat, tapering rib with a raised island towards muzzle, fit with a bead front sight, moon sight, and a removable hood. Express rear sight with silver lines is fit with three leaves, one standing and two folding, regulated for 100, 200, and 300 yards. Barrel are engraved "William Evans, 63 Pall Mall St James's, London" and "470 - 3 1/4 Solid Metal Case, 75 Grs Cordite 500 Grn Bullet" over chambers. Dressed with stiff leaf engraving with a more elaborate shell motif on doll's head rib extension. Barrel flats with British nitro proofs and serial number. Splinter forearm with modified point pattern checkering with a rotating lever release, engraved with scroll work on exterior of iron, interior with matching serial number. Case colored boxlock action is engraved with English pattern rose and scroll, bottom metal and trigger guard nicely blacked, with serial number and view proofs on action flats. Automatic safety with "SAFE" inlaid in gold ahead of slide. Double triggers are protected by a trigger guard with English scroll and a full length tang that runs to pistol grip cap. Nicely marbled walnut stock with sidepanels, drop points, and checkered in point pattern about the wrist. Toe line with a sling bow on stud, and silver plaque. Stock is finished by a pigskin covered recoil pad with English style covered screws and a heel finial. CONDITION: Very good as professionally rehabilitated. Barrels with virtually all of a nicely executed reblack, with some very minor superficial handling marks and some thinning to sharp edges, with a few minuscule stray pits on underside. Forearm with well executed case colors and fitted with new wood that shows just a few light handling marks. Case colors on action are vibrant, with finishing lacquer still visible throughout, with a few minor marks. Stock excellent with some handling marks and impressions, mostly behind pistol grip. Mechanically fine, bores are excellent with strong, well defined rifling. A wonderful double rifle in a great dangerous game caliber.
