Circa 1905. A rare safari double rifle with 26” blacked nitro proof chopper lump barrels. Barrels are nicely built with a filed spearpoint half rib. Barrel rib is smooth and concave, with doll's head extension, ramped blade front sight, and folding flip-up low light sight with hood protector. Spearpoint rib with one standing sight at 100 yards and five folding sights (200 – 600 yards). All sights with platinum line markers. Spear point rib also with innovative integral claw mount. Top of right barrel reads “39 CORN STREET. BRISTOL”. Left barrel reads “GEORGE GIBBS”. Bottom rib with loop for sling. Bottom rib reads “11336”. Barrel flats read “19589”, “400 EX”, “CORDITE 60-400 MAX” and proofs. Grayed silver patina boxlock action with scrolls reads “GEORGE GIBBS”. Action built with set disk strikers and screw grip, double triggers, blacked scroll and checkered top lever and checkered slide safe. “SAFE” is in gold. Rifle is non-auto safe. Water table with serial number. Bottom action is blacked and engraved. Trigger guard is blacked with sparse scroll engraving and extends to a long bottom strap. Bottom strap with lightly engraved serial number. Full length top strap is scroll engraved. Brown smoky walnut stock with sharp checkered pistol grip is built with a steel scroll engraved grip cap, loop for sling, vacant golden oval, and finished with a 1” orange rubber pad. Splinter forend with tight checkering, scroll engraved and checkered lever release. Exterior iron metal is scroll engraved. Rifle lives in a leather case with brass corners. Further accompanied by copies of "The British Bore Rifle" and "The Double Rifle Primer". CONDITION: Good. Barrels are excellent with very light handling marks. Bores are excellent. Action is sound. Some evidence of freckling. Stock is good with evidence of prior restock. Forend with evidence of repair work and chip to exterior iron metal. Case is good. PROVENANCE: Cal Pappas Collection

CORRECTION: The barrels have been reblued, the pad is newer, and there is a splice repair at toe.
