Highly sought German MP-28 machine gun with two original 32-round Sten magazines. Marked on top of magazine housing “MP-28.II SYSTEM SCHMEISSER PATENT”. Receiver tube and magazine housing serial numbers match. Rear sight is attached using slotted brass screws. The magazine housing of this gun has been very professionally adapted to accept standard unaltered Sten magazines (what a great idea for a Pre-86 Dealer Sample “shooter” gun!) The MP-28 is a select-fire machine gun which was a further refinement of the original German MP-18.I machine gun. At first glance they could be mistaken for the Bergmann MP-18.I System Schmeisser model, but the select fire button above the trigger is a notable external giveaway, as the larger diameter mainspring and internal one. The MP-28 was initially fielded primarily to police formations, but later found their way into second line military SS units. It is one of the most enjoyable German machine guns to shoot at the range as it holds very steady and has a nice, slow rate of fire. Unfortunately for the collecting community, it is also one of the scarcest of all the interwar German machine gun models, and consequently very much in demand. Electronic registry indicates, “SCHMEISSER (GE GERMANY)” as the manufacturer of this gun. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent matte gray refinish upon remanufacture with two noticeable 1/2” cracks in the stock on both the right and left side where the rear of the receiver tube meets the wood, as well as just to the rear or where the detent latch is. Light handling marks and some very light bruising to the wood also, but overall this does not affect serviceability and it could be a straightforward repair by someone who works with wood. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt is also near excellent. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. A very popular early German machine gun and one sure to please whomever ends up with it. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS TRANSFERABLE ONLY TO ACTIVE FFL/SOT DEALERS ON AN ATF FORM 3 BUT MAY BE RETAINED BY SOLE PROPRIETOR FFL/SOT HOLDERS WHEN THEY RELINQUISH THEIR LICENSES UPON BATF APPROVAL.
