One of the rarest of all German WWII used pistol caliber machine guns in the American NFA registry, this machine gun was designed and manufactured by Fabbrica Nazionale d’Armi di Brescia (F.N.A.B.) in 1943 at the Italian National Arms Factory in Brescia, Italy. Perhaps it is not widespread knowledge that Italian arms factories continued to produce high-quality machine guns, particularly pistol caliber weapons, for purchase and use by the German forces in 1943 and 1944. Germany had switched their production efforts to the MP-44/STG-44 by late 1943 and were sourcing Beretta 38A and 38/42 machine guns as well as about 1000 of this model, as they still needed compact 9mm machine guns. Serial numbers for this model started at 5000, probably to provide the impression to an enemy who captured one that they were more numerous than they actually were. These were a very expensive milled steel machine gun that fires from a closed bolt and utilizes a lever-delayed mechanism, and has some very interesting features, such as a magazine housing that folds forward (with a magazine in it), and a swing-out metal shoulder stock which allows this gun to be very compact. Perfect for getting rapidly in and out of vehicles. It utilizes standard Beretta 40, 30, or 20-round magazines, and one is included with this gun as well as an original leather sling. One can see elements very reminiscent of other machine pistols in the outward appearance of this gun. The shroud of the PpSh-41, and magazine housing idea of the Swiss MKPO, and the swing out shoulder loop from many others. This is a select-fire machine gun with selector in the vertical position as automatic (Raffica), and in the horizontal position as semi-auto (Colpo). Electronic NFA registry indicates “IMPORTED NFA FIREARM” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent original lustrous blue finish on metal parts with some slight loss of finish to a gray patina at the high edges and some loss of finish on the magazine. Some very light handling marks to the wood. The nature of the lever-delayed action makes it seem to us experienced machine gun shooters like there must be some grease or something in the action making it less smooth, but the action is designed this way, and the mechanics function exactly as they should, and the internals are in great shape as is the rest of this gun. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face extremely fine. This is a closed-bolt, select-fire machine gun. Please take note of this offering, as there are only very few specimens in the NFA registry, perhaps as few as 4 which are either fully transferable or pre-86 Dealer Samples. If you are an active FFL/SOT dealer and want one that you can keep after you relinquish your license and someday perhaps will to an heir, don’t miss the opportunity to acquire this gun. A fabulous and little-known gem from the latter days of World War II, and among the last of the WWII milled steel pistol caliber machine guns. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS TRANSFERABLE ONLY TO ACTIVE FFL/SOT DEALERS ON AN ATF FORM 3 BUT MAY BE RETAINED BY SOLE PROPRIETOR FFL/SOT HOLDERS WHEN THEY RELINQUISH THEIR LICENSES UPON BATF APPROVAL.
