Shoe lump barrels with a fire blued front sight with evidence of gilding on insert, two leaf express rear sight with wide square notches, one folding and one standing, and relieved for sideclips. Rib is a flat, matted quarter rib with island at muzzle for front sight blade and extension for a Greener crossbolt, with short triangles of engraving over chambers and at extension. Underside of rib with sling bow on screwed on base, matching serial number on water table with .500 NE designation and German nitro proof, "12AG" a stylized "JS" and a Suhl proof. Nitre proofs on underside of tubes, right barrel also numbered "6542". Wide bottom splinter forearm with Deely latch release checkered in point pattern about the latch, with light engraving on exterior iron, interior with matching serial number. Scalloped boxlock action engraved with big game scenes, including an elephant on left and rhino on right, bottom with Suhl blacksmith, all supported by acanthus scroll and geometrics. Engraving is signed "S.H" on left towards scallop. Sideclips, non-automatic safety (S engraved ahead of slide), and double triggers round out the features. Relatively restrained straight grained walnut stock with sidepanels, two panels of checkering at pistol grip, pancake cheekpiece, stud and sling bow on toe line, and a Merkel branded soft rubber recoil pad. Housed in an aluminum case with sea-green lining and Merkel branding in lid. CONDITION: Excellent with some very minor scattered handling marks, retaining virtually all of the factory finishes; most loss to gilding on front sight. Engraving is crisp. Stock with some minor handling marks, most likely shop wear. Mechanically fine, bores excellent, possibly unfired since proof. Case fine, code currently set to 000. A great double rifle ready for Africa.
