By 1973, when he reinvented Damascus steel, W.F. "Bill" Moran Jr. had already been handcrafting knives for 25 years. His ability to craft high end custom made knives earned him a reputation as one of the most well known modern bladesmiths of his time. "The Father of Modern Damascus" would go on to found the American Bladesmith Society and be inducted in to the Blade Magazine Hall of Fame in 1986 and the ABS Bladesmithing Hall of Fame in 1996. This silver wire inlaid tiger striped maple skinner with deluxe sheath is a wonderful example of Bill Moran's craftsmanship and features a 5" forged 5160 carbon steel blade marked "MORAN" on the obverse ricasso. The tiger striped maple grip exhibits beautiful scalloping and fine silver inlay. The knife is complete with its brown leather scabbard that features a tooled flower design and silvered throat that retains a leather belt loop. The knife exhibits light handling wear. Scabbard remains supple with light patina and some blemishes to throat. CONDITION: Excellent. PROVENANCE: From the collection of Frank Brownell.
