This very clean and righteous original smooth jacket Vickers water-cooled machine gun is marked “N.Z.” on the top of the water jacket, indicating it was fielded in New Zealand. Additionally, there is an envelope annotated “New Zealand papers/ #2399 MK I Vickers” with a “New Zealand Cargo” label and another cutout of cardboard with the sender and address in New Zealand. Accessories include an outstanding near mint original Vickers Mark 2 * dial sight in near mint original box, an original transit chest. Also included is a barrel in .308, a barrel in 7.92, and 3 spare .303 Vickers barrels, two muzzle cups, a U.S. Browning water can, and a vintage metal Vickers ammunition box with a cloth belt (without tabs) partially filled with older “R.P.” head-stamped ammunition. There is also an original Mark IV Vickers tripod in wooden shipping chest included with this lot, and an original World War I British gunner short coat. Gun has an armored muzzle booster with drain plug, cork, and chain present at the front of the water jacket. Rear sight marked for “Mk VIII Z“ .303 ammunition. Brass .303 feedblock in gun. Backplate retention shaft not present but these are readily available for purchase. Electronic NFA registry indicates “FORM 2 REGISTRATION” as the manufacturer of this gun, and includes the annotation, “IMPORTED FOR USE AS A SALES SAMPLE”. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine original blue finish on receiver box and hardware, thinning in places to show a gray patina. Water jacket retains extremely fine original green paint. Bore is fair, dark and pitted, but serviceable. Of the spare barrels, the three .303 have bores which are extremely fine, shiny and bright, and the others good with dark bores. All the spare barrels could use a good exterior cleaning, but when in gun they are not visible anyway. Muzzle cups are extremely fine. Lock and extractor face extremely fine. Tripod is complete with brass traverse disk and extremely fine with original finish in orange interior wood shipping chest. Gun transit chest has the grime of decades in the interior but the original blocking and pads are present. Cloth belt in ammo box appears serviceable. Dial sight and box is in near mint condition with attractive brass adjustment knob. The Vickers is always a popular gun at the shooting range. Well-made, reliable, and readily and easily converted to different calibers according to the desires of the owner. Parts have always seemed to be readily available as well. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS TRANSFERABLE ONLY TO ACTIVE FFL/SOT DEALERS ON AN ATF FORM 3 BUT MAY BE RETAINED BY SOLE PROPRIETOR FFL/SOT HOLDERS WHEN THEY RELINQUISH THEIR LICENSES UPON BATF APPROVAL.
