Shoe lump barrels with solid matte rib with island at muzzle for a blade front sight with brass insert, and quarter rib at rear with two leaf rear sight dovetailed on base, with U notches, express lines (vacant), and anti-glare matting on face. Left side of barrels with Merkel USA information, right with "Safari .470 NE". Underside with caliber designation, German nitro proofs, "10AG" and Suhl pick-and-sole shield. Built with extractor, Kersten bolt, and gently relieved for sideclips. Light floral engraving at rib extension and at sideclips. Flat bottom forearm with Deely latch release, checkered in a point pattern with mullered borders about the release, with light geometric and floral engraving on exterior iron, interior with matching serial number. Scalloped back boxlock action with game scene engraving of a cape buffalo on the savannah on the left, and a stalking lion on the plain on the right, supported by acanthus scroll and geometrics; signed "DG" behind cape buffalo for Doreen Grill. Typical Suhl blacksmith logo on bottom of action. Double triggers protected by a short tang trigger guard, brass tipped cocking indicators, and non-automatic safety with encircled "S" ahead of slide. Walnut stock with sidepanels, point pattern checkering about the pistol grip, composite grip cap, pancake cheekpiece, and Merkel soft rubber recoil pad. Sling bows on stud at toe line and another on screwed-on base on underside of rib. In the Merkel box with end label correctly identifying this gun by serial number. CONDITION: Excellent, NOS or equivalent, with some very minor handling marks scattered throughout the all original finishes to wood and metal. Mechanically fine, bores are bright and shiny with some light evidence of firing residue, probably from proof. Box fine.
