C. 1950. The box looks complete with rare unbroken glass beaker. The box is marked "Gilbert U-238 Atomic Energy Lab" on the top lid. It has a nice colored paper label on the inside, showing a kid working with a lab. One of the pieces says "Gilbert Cloud Chamber," which was considered one of the most dangerous toys in history. Fewer than 5,000 were produced, and very few surviving today complete. The materials includes plastic, clear glass, metal and paper. The box includes the cardboard inserts, original inserts, a deionizer, glass tubes containing chemicals and a Gieger counter. One of the rarest and most expensive of all the Gilbert sets. It includes some booklets about Atomic Energy, Uranium, Science Manual, Adventures in the Atom, and Dagwood Splits the Atom Manual. Complete to near complete.
