Circa 1999 per BM date code. Chopper lump barrels fit with a brass bead front sight on raised spearpoint finial island with Holland & Holland style flip-over night bead. Spearpoint quarter rib at rear with two leaf rear sight, one standing fixed blade regulated at 50 yards, one folding leaf at 70. Both with striated faces and gold lines, with 50 yard line a triangle. Nicely cut acanthus scrollwork on sight base and towards rear, continuing onto the dolls head rib extension, with stiff leaf engraving at breeches. "FAMARS" engraved on left barrel, underside of barrel with Italian proofs, caliber designation, Foxtrot import mark behind forearm loop, and A&S logo. Flat bottom forearm with point pattern checkering with mullered borders, lightly engraved with scroll on exterior. Interior with matching serial number. Boxlock action with "Famars" in gold Gothic script on both sides, bottom with "CAL. 470 NE. / MOD. / AFRICA" in gold, with supporting acanthus scroll. Engraving is signed "G.M. Sabbati inc" at trigger guard. Action flats with serial number, caliber designation, A&S logo, and Italian proofs; breeches with disc set strikers. Double triggers, front hinged, protected by a right-hand-beaded trigger guard with long tang that runs all the way to steel grip cap, which is engraved en suite, with trap. Long top tang that runs to and over comb with automatic safety, with gold "S" inlaid ahead of slide. Stock of a heavily fiddled and nicely streaked walnut with sidepanels, two panels of point pattern checkering at the wrist, shadowline cheekpiece, sling stud at toe line, and brass vanity plate with "FM" engraved. Cast slightly off for a right handed shooter. Red rubber recoil pad. Housed in a maroon leather wrapped Nizzoli case, interior lined in forest green with Famars trade label in lid, compartmentalized for gun when broken apart; one compartment contains two sling bows, and film canister with spare strikers and spare front sight. CONDITION: Barrels with a top quality reblack with some very minor handling marks, and thinning to sharp edges. It is professionally done and retains razor sharp legends. Boxlock action with thin case colors, silvering at edges, engraving is crisp and well cut. Breech face with some minor pitting. Stock is excellent with some scattered light handling marks and impressions. Mechanically fine, bores very good with strong rifling and soft frosting. Case excellent. A stunning double rifle in a caliber ready for all matter of big game.
