Fine Japanese Type 99 light machine gun manufactured at the Nagoya arsenal in October of 1943. Nagoya arsenal logo on right side of receiver with date code of "18.10" for August 1943. Buffer, charging handle, ejection port cover, bolt, op-rod, sear safety bar, and barrel match receiver number. One original unnumbered 30-round magazine is included. No flash hider present. There is evidence of welding and refinish at the top of the receiver at the barrel socket, with commensurate heat discoloration at the chamber of the barrel. Electronic NFA registry indicates “GERMANY” as the manufacturer, however this outlandish error in the NFA registry can be requested for correction prior to transfer to the buyer if they desire. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine to extremely fine original finish on most metal surfaces, with touch-up blue in some area, and refinish at top of receiver forward of magazine well, with some thinning and mottling to the finish on the right side of the receiver. Internal parts have gray and brown patina but appear serviceable. Buttplate is a uniform brown patina. Wood carry handle has a slight chip at top center, and has a glued repair at the top front (about 30% of the front broke away at some point), but is completely serviceable. Wood buttstock has been sanded to point where buttplate is proud of the wood, but the wood is smooth and attractive with some light handling marks. Pistol grip is extremely fine with some staining at the top ront and back. Bore is extremely fine with bright rifling. Bolt face has a dark patina but appears serviceable. The mechanism operates when actuated by hand. This is a full-auto only machine gun. The Type 99 Model was the larger, more powerful cartridge version of the earlier Type 96. Both were used by Japanese forces until the end of World War II. The Type 99 was generally considered an improvement due to the more powerful cartridge and wedge-type barrel fastening system. These went to the elite units first such as the Japanese marines, then a significant number of these guns were retained on the home islands, saving the best for the final defense. Overall this gun presents very well. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2024-12-27.
