An included 1996 requisition invoice listing this rifle by serial number indicates it shipped from Commander, NAVWARCENDIV to a MR1 W. Broering as a Secretary of Navy Award trophy rifle. William Broering was an active member of the Navy Marksmanship team winning Bronze at the 1994 Navy East Coast Rifle & Pistol Championships. Rifle is an early Winchester manufactured in late 1940 or early 1941. Springfield barrel dated "10-53" with post war sights. Rebuilt, mostly Springfield internals including relieved op rod. Standard walnut stocks. CONDITION: Very good. Rifle retains significant portions of arsenal parkerized finish with mild wear. Handguard has scattered dings. Stock has been lightly sanded and reoiled with impressions throughout. Crisp bright bore. ME reads just under 5. TE of 4. Fine mechanics.
