Circa 1840-1860 American large berlin work of George Washington. Constructed of wool and silk on canvas, after the painting "Washington at Trenton" by John Trumbull (American, 1756-1843), which depicts the night after the Second Battle of Trenton on January 2, 1777 and before the decisive victory at the Battle of Princeton the following day during the Revolutionary War. The image depicts George Washington in the foreground with his right arm extended, holding a spyglass, and his left hand rests on this sword. His horse rears behind him with a groom trying to restrain the animal. The background features soldiers in battle with American flags. Washington's coat features beadwork buttons. Housed under glass in a wood frame that measures 40" x 37". Colors remain vibrant with tight stitching. CONDITION: Very good.
