Of classic early Northampton County form with an octagon barrel and swamped muzzle. Flat lockplate with beveled edges, of Germanic style. Brass Lehigh furniture. Figured tiger maple stock of early and slender Northampton County form showing some Bucks County features including the deep grooves on both sides from in front of lock and sideplate to just above ramrod entry ferrule. Carved with fleur-de-lis motifs behind lock, sideplate, and behind barrel tang. Carved with incised c-scrolls behind cheekpiece and around barrel tang. Replaced sliding wood patchbox. Open-ended nosecap and extended ferrule tang. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina with some scattered pitting, heavier at breech. Lock appears to be in its original flintlock configuration, but has been cleaned and refinished. Brass retains a mellow patina. Some small slivers replaced around lock, around pins and along forend. Appropriate period ramrod.
