Circa 1790 - 1800, displaying classic Bucks County, Pennsylvania carving, form, and features throughout. The propeller on the patchbox lid is indicative of the work of John Shuler rifles, as this design is found on his signed guns. Full octagon barrel. Germanic lockplate. Brass furniture includes an engraved side-opening patchbox, Bucks County trigger guard terminating in thumbnail designs at both ends and a sideplate terminating in the back with a ball. Buttplate tang also terminates in a thumbnail. Figured tiger maple stock of classic Bucks County form and extensively carved with incised scrolls in the Shuler style throughout, with some areas of relief carving. Trigger with dramatic rearward curl that is found on most Bucks rifles. CONDITION: Barrel has been stretched about 10" at the breech which corresponds with the 11" of replaced forend at the muzzle. Lock is a reconversion and sideplate is a modern replacement. Stock shows scattered marls from use and signs of age. A very attractive classic Golden Age Bucks County rifle.
