Lot consists of: (A) M1889 white 5 button summer sack coat that was used in hot weather climates by troops during the Spanish-American War and in the Philippines. Intact with tight stitching and no major rips. Moderate soiling throughout with typical staining from exposure. All 5 removable buttons are in place. CONDITION: Good. (B) M1889 summer helmet. These helmets were produced in khaki and this example was whitened in the field. Body of the helmet retains its full shape with intact covering. Liner is intact with supple sweatband and size tag of "6 - 7/8". Vent is intact and cork remains attached to the green lining. The helmet comes with its original white leather chin strap that has separated from the helmet. Most chinstraps on these helmets did not survive and finding one that is detached is rare.
