The Austen MK I machine gun is an Australian design that combines features of the German MP-40 with the British Sten gun. It has the innovative feature of having a cleaning rod and screwdriver built into the shoulder mount. These guns were originally manufactured by two different firms, W.T. Carmichael & Sons Ltd, and Die Casting Ltd; this gun was manufactured by the former. The Australians took the Sten design provided to them by the British and incorporated the folding stock, a vertical pistol grip, enclosed telescoping mainspring, and the grip profile of the German MP-40. Even the grip panels closely resemble those of the MP-40. It includes one original Die Casting Ltd manufactured 28-round magazine, an original "Austen" marked magazine loader, and has an attached web sling. Electronic NFA registry indicates “YORK, WILLIAM DBA YORK ARMS CO” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent black enamel paint finish on steel parts. Austen magazine has a dull black painted finish. Magazine housing has loss of finish at the high edges. Bore is extremely fine to near excellent. Bolt face is extremely fine to near excellent. This is a select fire machine gun. Not often encountered as not many made it back to the United States. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. JWK 2024-12-57.
