Really nice original two-wheeled U.S. utility handcart manufactured by “John Wood Mfg. Co. 1943”, as shown on data plate on right side. Also has white stenciled unit mark, “B-1-9”, on rear left side. Includes detachable yoke which fits on tongue so that two soldiers can pull this cart. One can see period photographs online showing these carts being used to carry anything from equipment to Browning machine guns mounted on their tripods. This cart has the brackets for the Browning machine gun tripod. This very handy cart measures 40” outer hub-to-hub, is 21” high, and 71” long from front of tongue to back. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent restored olive drab painted finish, with rubber tires in fine serviceable condition. One doe not see these carts surface for sale very often. Some of us recall one of these carts being prominently used in the 1962 film "The Longest Day" to carry actor John Wayne as he portrayed Lt. Col. Benjamin Vandervoort, a soldier with a broken leg. This cataloger wishes quality utility carts like these were still being made. JWK 2024-12-89.
