This gun was part of Colt's "Vietnam Retro" Series which was limited to a production run of 2500 guns. It is a semi-auto Colt AR-15 marked "Property of U.S. Govt" over "M16A1" followed by "CAL 5.56 MM" over the serial number. Department of Defense white ink stamp on front of magazine well. Original sealed factory accessory packet with manual, 20 round magazine, and sling included with this lot. Colt produced this factory semi-auto to meet the demand of many (now retired) U.S. military personnel including this cataloger who carried a specimen that appeared like this during their military service and will recognize the curved edge buttplate, triangular handguards, pivoting sling swivels, chrome lined bore, and windage adjustable only rear sight. Even the buttstock is smooth polymer like vintage. PROVENANCE: This is the exact same gun featured in a Small Arms Review article by Frank Iannamico dated September 12, 2022. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish near mint, as new in box. Bore as left factory with desiccant insert still in place. Bolt face as left factory. Mechanics are crisp. A beautiful example of the military M-16 as made in semi-auto for the for the collector who desires to respect the modern Vietnam era military rifle without the cost and paperwork intrinsic to owning a machine gun.
