Circa 1934 per serial number. Dovetail lump barrels with a bead front sight on a depressed rib, signed "William Evans. 63, Pall Mall, St James's London", fit with a doll's head rib extension, and engraved at extension with a triangle of acanthus scroll, a gold inlaid "2", indicating that this gun was once part of a pair, and beading at breeches. Underside of tubes with matching serial number. Tables with numerous proofs and reproofs, most recent appears to be 1992, with proofs for 2 - 3/4" chambers, a nominal 16.9 IBD, and nitro proofing at 900 BAR. Notably, the original proofs indicate that chamber length was originally 2 - 1/2". Splinter forearm with reinforced Anson plunger release with a gold inlaid "2", point pattern checkering, and gentle floral engraving on exterior iron. Interior iron with matching serial number. Action flats with serial number, and view and proof marks. Case colored sidelocks are engraved with sprigs of acanthus scrollwork supported by beaded borders, signed "William Evans" at the bars. Double triggers protected by a blued trigger guard engraved en suite, top lever with gold inlaid "2", and automatic safety with "SAFE" inlaid ahead of slide. Straight grained walnut stock with teardrops, point pattern checkering about the wrist, a silver vanity plaque at toe line, and a leather wrapped recoil pad with English style covered screws. Brass tabbed leather case lined in forest green with William Evans trade label in lid, and containing accessories comprising two piece cleaning rod, pair snapcaps, pair mainsprings, key, and wallet with mop and jag. Case protected by leather tabbed canvas slip. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels with the majority of their bluing, starting to plum somewhat, with some scattered handling marks, some minor silvering, and thinning to sharp edges at muzzle and breech. Forearm very good as carefully conserved, with a repaired crack at exterior iron, a chip missing along left side, a repair at Anson reinforcement, and a few abraded heads. Somewhat less than half of the case colors are retained, with better retention in protected areas, with areas of lacquering still present. Stock very good with some handling marks and impressions throughout, a chip behind right lock, and an extra layer of varnish. Pad with some distress and edge rubbing. Mechanically fine, bores very good, ejectors do not fire and are in need of attention. Case very good with some rubs and age related discoloration in one compartment, but whole and solid.
