Only 1000 made between 1856-1859. This is one of only approximately 200 made with the 30" octagon to round barrel. Distinctive features include the oiler attachment and factory mounted 34 - 1/2" metal rod attached to the left side. The cylinder features the roll die scene, which is still partially visible, along with the matching serial number. The front sight is dovetailed and has the single leaf folding rear sight. Finish is Colt blue with a walnut stock that sports an iron rifle butt plate. The Colt Hartford legend is stamped on top of barrel. CONDITION: Fine. This is one of the better examples of this rare model this writer has seen. The frame retains at least 80% bright blue on left side with nearly all the blue rear of the cylinder. A bit less on right side but still retains most of the bright blue back of the cylinder. The barrel shows some patina bleed through with some age freckling, some minor salt and pepper but still retains at least 50% bright blue. The cylinder and trigger guard are soft grey patina. The left side frame screws retain majority of blue. The legends are crisp. The stock is excellent with some impressions and oil darkening. The action is smooth as silk. The bore is sharp and true with only minor residue. Would be extremely difficult to find a better surviving example
