Per the incldued factory letter, this pistol originally shipped soft with unlisted stocks to J.B. Shannon Hardware Company, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in a shipment of 1, on Colt Order 792, dated November 28th, 1916. It was then returned to the factory for bluing and shipped to William Gough on January 23rd, 1917 for engraving. The pistol is signed on the frame "ENG. BY W.H. GOUGH. 1917" under right grip scale. The gun is covered in approximately B class coverage of Gough's trademark flowing florals on a striated ground, and has a "JVD" monogram on left side of frame enhanced by gilding, with rocker edges. Checkered walnut grips with single screw that feeds through German silver escutcheons. Adjustable bead front sight and adjustable U notch rear sight. With aforementioned factory letter and a Certificate of Authenticity from Gilman & Associates. CONDITION: Retains the majority, approximately 60%, of the factory applied bluing. Most losses confined to the first 3" or so of the barrel, as if one stuck it in a wet holster, largely a dove grey mixed with surface peppering and smooth chocolate patina. Balance of pistol excellent with some scattered superficial marks. Crisp engraving. Mechanically fine, bore with strong rifling and some mild frosting.
