The Winchester date record lists this as a 1948 shipped gun. With stock removed, one can see a 1945 date stamp. The war essentially put a hold on shipping most civilian orders and many parts were still in inventory in 1946. There were some civilian shipments during the war if the plant was caught up with war production, but it was very sporadic. Standard configuration with non-standard chamberings was the second popular demand with special orders, and between 1946-1948, there were 2090 special orders. The barrel has the standard Winchester legend with ".22 H.P." for caliber and is stamped "22 HP" under barrel. This rifle features the 2 - 1/2" hooded ramp front sight, blue finish, sporting rear sight, blue finish, and checkered walnut stock with pistol grip, straight comb, checkered metal butt plate, and swivels. The matching serial number is etched on bolt. There are no final production figures for a .22 HP rifle but, only available as a special order, records are sparse. CONDITION: Excellent. Rifle retains majority of blue finish with a few handling marks. The bore is bright. Stock is fine but does shows scattered impressions.
