The Winchester date record lists this as a 1948 shipped gun. With stock removed, one will see a 1941 date stamp, which was the last full year in which the carbine was cataloged. The war essentially put a hold on shipping most civilian orders and many parts were still in inventory in 1946. There were some civilian shipments during the war, if the plant was caught up with war production, but it was very sporadic. Standard configuration with non-standard chamberings was the second most popular demand with special orders. Between 1946-1948, there were 2090 special orders. The barrel has the standard Winchester legend with ".219 Zipper" for caliber and is simply stamped "Z" under barrel. This carbine features the 2 - 5/8" hooded ramp front sight, blue finish, filled rear sight slot, Lyman rear mounted peep sight, blue finish, and checkered walnut stock with pistol grip, straight comb, checkered metal butt plate and swivels. The matching serial number is etched on bolt. There are no final production figures for a .219 Zipper carbine but as a special order only, records are sparse. CONDITION: Excellent. Rifle retains majority of blue finish with a few handling marks. The bore is bright. Stock excellent but does show some scattered impressions.
