This gun dates to 1954. The bolt has etched matching serial number. The last mention of carbines in Roger Rule's book is in 1947 when all carbines are listed as discontinued; in 1941, carbines were offered in 21 different caliber, the .308 is not listed as ever being available in a carbine form as the .308 was not developed until 1952. Obviously a special order, this late carbine features the post-war Monte Carlo comb often seen on the lightweight models of the 1950s. Requesting special non catalogued cartridges on standard issue guns was the number two special order on Model 70's Over 2000 special orders were shipped from 1946-48 alone which would have been a lot of special order cartridge guns shipped and these special orders were shipped well into the 1950's. Features the blue finish, short barrel, the short 2 - 1/4" hooded ramp front sight, folding leaf rear sight, matte finish frame, checkered walnut stock with pistol grip, checkered steel butt plate, and swivels. CONDITION: Excellent. Retains nearly all its blue finish with minor handling marks and some minute thinning on some high edges. Stock shows some minor impressions and a bit of wear at grip. Bore is strong.
