Another identical sword of this pattern is located in the Society of the Cincinnati Museum in Washington, DC (The American Revolution Institute) and is identified to General Washington's Aide in the Revolutionary War, Anthony Walton White (1750 - 1803). A letter from the Museum Collections Manager there and many detailed color photographs and a description of the sword are included. Long slightly curved blade with wide shallow fuller on both sides and terminating in a clip-point. Both sides marked in fuller with crown over stylized "GR", top of blade marked "T. GILL" on spine for maker Thomas Gill. Iron four-slot guard with faceted domed pommel cap with integral turned capstan. Wood grip is original and was once wrapped with leather. CONDITION: Blade retains a grey patina, some battle nicks to cutting edge. Hilt retains a pleasing dark grey patina, minor period repair on right side of guard, just below quillon. Hilt tight to blade, original red wool washers still present at top of blade. Grip shows wear and marks from use. A very nice and rare example of this pattern.
