Only 1000 made by Remington in 1847-48. This example is dated 1847. The lock has the Remington Herkimer legend. Top of barrel is stamped "W. JENKS", "U.S.N. RP", "P", "1847", and "CAST STEEL". The RP stamp is for inspector Richard Paine. Features standard mule ear action, brass furniture, browned barrel, saddle ring and stud at lower tang, and a one piece walnut stock with a strong RP Richard Paine cartouche. CONDITION. Excellent. The case color action still has some flashes of color but mostly soft. The barrel retains nearly all the factory browned finish with sharp legends. The bore is still bright. The stock is excellent, quite solid with usual scattered dings. Even the screws still retain generous fire blue. One of the best condition examples this writer has seen.
