Only 4000 made in 1863-64 in Hamilton Ohio. Features a case color frame, lock, hammer and lever. The blued octagon to round barrel sports a post front sight and folding ladder rear sight. The left side of frame has the saddle ring and bar. On right side of frame at forward area is stamped "UNIO RIFLE". The lock has the Gwyn & Campbell, Hamilton, Ohio legend. Left side of barrel at breech has "R" sub-inspector stamp. The left side of the walnut stock has a bold "WHR" cartouche for William Russel. CONDITION: Excellent. Almost unused. The stock still has the raised grain with a couple of minor impressions. The fire blue screw heads in stock and both sides of frame still retain virtually all their fire blue finish. The right side of frame, lock, and hammer retain nearly all their bright case color. The left side is almost as nice with some wear from the ring. The barrel retains 98-99% blue with just the smallest of handling marks. The fire blue loading block retains half its finish. Even the patina butt plate has some flashes of bright blue. Bore is mirror bright. Would be almost impossible to find a better example.
