According to included factory research, the serial number of this rifle was applied April 7, 1890 and it was shipped out from the Winchester warehouse on July 16 of the same year. Turnbull has masterfully upgraded the rifle to its current, highly desirable configuration. The takedown frame is finished in attractive case colors and is fully engraved. The left side of the frame features a central American bison standing in a Western mountain landscape with foliate scroll borders. The right side has a bugling bull elk above the loading gate and a bighorn sheep towards the front with additional foliate scroll throughout. The engraved embellishments extend onto the case hardened lever and hammer. Single set trigger, a factory fitted option on this rifle. Rifle currently sports a blued octagon barrel chambered in .45-70 with engraved flourishes at muzzle and breech, hunting front sight, and 3-leaf express rear. An additional identically finished complete barrel assembly in .50 Express also is included. Both forends are highly figured walnut with checkering done in the factory "D" style with oak leaf and acorn motifs. Both of the nose caps are case hardened with light engraving and sling eyes. Matching "D" pattern carved pistol grip stock of excellent figure mounted with a with sling eye, "TWA" engraved gold toeline vanity plate, and a lightly engraved, case hardened rifle butt plate. This set is attractively housed in a quality red velvet lined and Turnbull branded hard sided Aluminum transit case. Factory style sling hooks are also included in the case to be used for the buyer's slings of choice. CONDITION: Excellent as handsomely restored and upgraded by Turnbull. Virtually all of the expertly reapplied finishes are retained throughout with some light handling. Magazine tubes show some thread marks from the takedown process. Stocks are likewise excellent with only light handling. Fine, mirror bores. Crisp mechanics. Case code is unknown with evidence of the lock being popped open. Case is otherwise good. A fabulous set.
